On the morning of December 31, 2024, a warehouse fire broke out in the Central Southwest area of Houston. The incident occurred at 6:40 a.m. at 14023 S. Post Oak Rd. No injuries were reported in the conflagration that caused an estimated $70,000 in damages.
According to the official City of Houston news release, the fire department personnel responded promptly after reports of smoke emerging from the single-story warehouse. They forced entry to carry out an offensive attack, with the Houston Police Department providing traffic control. No victims were reported, and approximately $780,000 worth of property was preserved from destruction due to the efforts of the fire crews.
In dealing with the blaze, firefighters conducted a primary search to ensure no one was inside, secured the utilities, and summoned additional units due to the warehouse's large size. A vehicle and some auto supplies had ignited inside the business, a problem quickly remedied without the need for hazardous materials response teams.
The cause of the fire, though unintentional, appears to have stemmed from something as mundane as a hot plate left on a wooden table, which was situated perilously close to the vehicle. This seemingly small oversight called into action a total of 59 personnel, including teams from Stations 37, 2, 21, 59, 47, 80, 55, 24, 82 and Rescue 10.
