A tragic crash on Interstate 75 in Oakland County yesterday early morning claimed the life of a 24-year-old woman from Houston, according to local authorities. The incident occurred near Woodward Heights Boulevard in Hazel Park and involved a Jeep Compass and a Kenworth gravel hauler, both heading north on I-75. CBS News Detroit reported that the crash happened around 6:40 a.m. when the driver of the Jeep lost control, causing her vehicle to spin into the path of the truck.

The impact was severe. The Michigan State Police, as reported by The Oakland Press, stated that the gravel hauler struck the Jeep's driver side and pushed the vehicle about 750 feet before stopping. The driver of the Jeep was pronounced dead at the scene, while the gravel hauler driver was unharmed. The woman's identity was withheld until her family was notified later in the morning.

After the collision, a large section of northbound I-75 was closed starting at Eight Mile Road, leading to detours and heavy traffic in the area. FOX 2 Detroit reported that the road was reopened around noon. The incident is under investigation, with crash reconstruction and medical examiner's reports pending. The Oakland County Prosecutor's Office will also review the case.

Authorities are stressing the importance of road safety, especially during bad weather conditions. "We continue to remind drivers to slow down and drive carefully when road conditions change. Troopers investigated over 35 preventable crashes across the district since midnight," said MSP First Lt. Mike Shaw in a statement obtained by FOX 2 Detroit.
