The Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department responded to a fire on Wednesday after a call on Tuesday night about a brush fire, which was not found. Later, they were dispatched to 8225 Moncrief Dinsmore Road, where they encountered a trash fire, according to Action News Jax.
After the fire was extinguished, the case appeared to be closed. However, the next day, a burnt body was found inside a vehicle. Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department Captain Eric Prosswimmer stated, "Our crews didn't see any signs of a body," as reported by First Coast News.
Firefighters found the remains of a man in his 70s in a box truck where he had been living for years. Initially, they had no idea anyone lived there. "We had no indication that anybody lived here, but we were told later that somebody actually lived in this vehicle for a number of years," said Capt. Prosswimmer. The case is being investigated as a possible homicide by the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office and the Bureau of Fire Arson Investigations. The man's identity has not been released, and Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department offered sympathy to his family and friends, saying, "Our sympathy goes out to any family or friends he may have had. It’s a very unfortunate situation," as stated by News4Jax.
