The City of Kingsport is on the move, crafting a strategic plan to shape the city's direction over the next few years. With a spotlight on community voices, the City's Board of Mayor and Aldermen, and key city staffers, convened earlier this week for a day-long strategy workshop, as reported by the city's official website.
Central to the workshop was the analysis of a community survey that drew in 2,089 participants, sharing their insight on what they believe should be the city’s top priorities. The results were clear: "A Thriving Local Economy" led the pack, followed by "A Safe and Welcoming Community," and not too far behind, an "Efficient and Responsive Government." These areas were among seven strategic focus points identified by the city to steer their policy and investments through to 2028 or 2030.
"A new strategic plan will make sure our goals and objectives are in alignment, and we’ll be able to measure our success based on the investments we make," City Manager Chris McCartt was quoted on the city's release. The planning effort, supported by consultancy firm Raftelis, aims to keep the city’s pulse in tune with the Board, community, and city staff's heartbeat.
The workshop builds on last fall's momentum when Kingsport charged Raftelis with the mission of crafting the city’s strategic roadmap. Addressing diverse imperatives such as "Sustainable Infrastructure," "Quality of Life," "Strong and Vibrant Neighborhoods," and "Quality Education," the plan reflects a multifaceted approach to civic development. The respondents, a majority of whom have called Kingsport home for over two decades, did not shy away from expressing their perspectives on the future of their city.
McCartt expressed his satisfaction with the community's involvement, heralding the survey turnout: "It’s satisfying to know this many people are interested in Kingsport’s future and are willing to offer their opinions on the big ideas we’re working on." With input gathered and directions set, Raftelis is expected to present a finalized strategic plan for approval come early spring.
