Gibbs High School's baseball field might soon bear the name of country star and alumnus Morgan Wallen, as a proposal for renaming the facility is set to be reviewed by the Knox County Schools Naming Facilities Committee on March 7. The idea to rename the field "Morgan Wallen Field" has been bolstered by support including Knox County Mayor Glenn Jacobs and several other county dignitaries. WVLT reported on the submission of this proposal back in October 2024.

According to WATE, the nomination submitted by Gibbs Principal Jason Webster includes a substantial monetary commitment from Wallen, including a $1,200,000 pledge for athletic facility improvements, as well as a reference to the singer's contributions to local education. In addition to this pledge, Wallen has previously donated amounts such as $140,000 to Gibbs Ruritan Park, $100,000 to the Jefferson County baseball park, and other contributions to local schools.

The rules for naming facilities, as per WBIR, stipulate that honorees should exemplify role model characteristics or have made significant contributions to the district or their field. Alongside facility enhancements, Wallen's charitable actions have extended to a $500,000 donation to Second Harvest Food Bank to assist communities hit by Hurricane Helene, and $140,000 to refurbish local sports infrastructure.

Morgan Wallen has expressed support for the naming suggestion, and his actions reflect his connection to his alma mater. "Since graduating, [Wallen] has worked extremely hard and established himself as the biggest star in country music today," Principal Jason Webster said, acknowledging the singer's fame and his ongoing support for Gibbs High School, WBIR reports.
