Following a tense morning standoff in Knoxville, 36-year-old Darryl Johnson was detained by local law enforcement in connection to a domestic assault incident. This arrest occurred after Knoxville Police Department Crisis Negotiators intervened, bringing the situation to a peaceful conclusion, according to the Knoxville Police Department's official website.
Police were called to the residential area at about 5:30 a.m. yesterday, where it was reported that Johnson, who was allegedly armed with a knife, had choked his mother in her home on the 4700 block of Royal Prince Way. Officers were met by the victim upon their arrival, who had managed to flee her home to safety. The responding officers then observed Johnson inside the property, causing harm to himself with the knife.
Specialized negotiators arrived to spearhead a resolution, dedicating nearly four hours to the effort. Their task was to ensure the situation concluded without further injury to any individuals involved, including Johnson himself.
Success was achieved shortly after nine in the morning when Johnson voluntarily exited his home and allowed officers to take him into custody. "Johnson voluntarily exited the home and was taken into custody," reported the Knoxville Police Department. He was initially transported to the UT Medical Center to receive treatment for the injuries he had inflicted upon himself. Post-treatment, he was booked into the Roger D. Wilson Detention Facility, facing charges of aggravated domestic assault.
