Heads up, Red River Parish drivers: construction to improve LA 515 is just around the corner. The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) has announced the launch of a $2.6 million project focusing on a six-mile stretch of LA 515 north of Coushatta.
According to DOTD's announcement, work is slated to begin on Monday, provided the weather cooperates. The endeavor will include full-depth patching — to rectify the most severely damaged roadway down to its base, and milling where old asphalt is scraped off in preparation for a fresh overlay. New asphalt will then be laid over these prepped surfaces in the New Hope and Crichton communities.
For those who rely on this corridor for their daily commute, the construction will mean intermittent lane closures intended to give workers space to work safely and more efficiently. DOTD has not provided specific details on scheduled closures but did emphasize that drivers should be prepared for shifts in traffic patterns during this period.
Completion of the entire project is expected by Fall 2025, although this schedule is dependent on various factors, including weather conditions, which can delay construction. In a safety reminder from DOTD, the department expressed appreciation for public patience and urged everyone to "please drive with caution through the construction site and be on the lookout for work crews and their equipment."
