The Los Angeles Police Department is actively seeking help from the community to find a hit-and-run driver who left a man in his 60s in critical condition. The incident, which occurred on January 11 at around 6:20 p.m. on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard at Dalton Avenue, involved a dark-colored small SUV striking a pedestrian in a wheelchair. According to KTLA, the driver attempted to swerve but ultimately hit the man and did not stop to assist, instead continuing to drive away from the scene.
As reported by the Los Angeles Police Department's YouTube post, the suspect's vehicle was last seen heading southbound on Harvard Boulevard from Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. The victim, whose identity has not been made public, was promptly attended to by the Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics and subsequently transported to a local hospital, where he remains in the ICU. The LAPD has issued a plea to anyone who can step forward and provide any information that could help to quickly apprehend the driver responsible for this crime.
To encourage witnesses to come forth, the City of Los Angeles is offering a reward of up to $25,000 for information leading to the identification and conviction of the hit-and-run driver. This fund was set up following the amendment of the Los Angeles Administrative Code on April 15, 2015, which created the Hit-and-Run Reward Program Trust Fund, as noted by the official LAPD newsroom.
