The first shooting occurred early on Feb. 24 when a man reportedly confronted suspects allegedly attempting to steal a catalytic converter on the 4400 block of 6th Street. The altercation escalated quickly, as one suspect brandished a firearm and discharged it before the group fled, thankfully leaving no injuries in their wake. Details on the suspects remain under investigation, as noted in the LBPD's update.
Later that night, another shooting shook the community on the 4600 block of Orange Avenue. Officers who arrived at the scene following a call at 11:17 p.m. found evidence of a shooting, but again, no individuals were harmed. Investigators are still piecing together the suspects' identities and the motivation behind this act of violence.
Amid these unsettling events, The Long Beach Police also detailed a traffic accident that claimed the life of a woman on the 2600 block of Long Beach Boulevard. The Collision Investigation detectives' efforts to unravel the specifics of this unfortunate event are underway, and information is to be disclosed in a forthcoming news release.
In the midst of chaos, however, the police force managed to mitigate potential harm by removing two firearms from the streets in a separate incident. The officers' swift action during a traffic stop at the intersection of 32nd Street and Santa Fe Avenue led to the discovery of a firearm and the arrest of a suspect, prohibited from possessing such weapons.
