LAFD crews arrived on the scene at approximately 9:55 AM, after which entry was made into the affected unit, and the source of the smoke was identified. The department's quick response led to a successful knockdown, with no human injuries reported. However, firefighters are currently evaluating a dog that was inside the apartment for potential smoke inhalation. Meanwhile, an LAFD hazardous materials team is en route to handle the safe disposal of the compromised battery.
