Changes are coming to hunting season in Louisiana. According to the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries, the Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries Commission approved several amendments for the 2025-26 season during their recent meeting in New Orleans. These amendments include a few tweaks: airboats can now traverse designated trails in the Maurepas Swamp Wildlife Management Area, turkey hunters can set their sights on East Carroll Parish, and veterans have specific dates for waterfowl hunting in the East Zone.
The hunting regulation changes were made official on February 6 and are part of a larger package of proposed dates and regulations up for public comments until March 7. Adjustments for veteran waterfowlers have been scheduled for Jan. 31-Feb. 1, 2026, and this year's modifications also touched upon clarifying language regarding legal archery sights, as reported by the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries.
For those looking to offer feedback on these changes, there's still time. Comments can be made in person at monthly LWFC meetings or sent directly to Dr. Jeffrey Duguay of the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries Wildlife Division. Alternatively, emails can be fired off to [email protected], or you can make your voice heard at the upcoming Zoom public meeting set for February 26 at 6:30 p.m.
