In a startling encounter in the heart of Altamonte Springs, neighborhood resident Chris Mack and his service dog were attacked by coyotes on a routine evening walk. As Mack narrated to ClickOrlando, "Normal as can be until we got right around to this corner right here," Mack said, detailing the moment he crossed paths with the wild animals on Leatherwood Drive in the Country Creek neighborhood; injuries from the incident were visible on his face, arm, and hand.
The confrontation escalated quickly, with Mack's dog, Bohdi the Boxer, first engaging one of the coyotes, causing Mack to tumble to the ground where he sustained scrapes to his face and arm, leading to a second coyote joining the fray, as Mack recollected in an interview with WESH, "When a 95-pound dog comes at you at 35 miles per hour. You're like a bowling pin," Mack recounted, emphasizing the sheer force behind Bodhi's intervention with the predators.
The incident highlights a growing concern within the community regarding wildlife encounters, with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) confirming awareness and ongoing investigation into the matter—the agency also encourages public reporting of wildlife encounters, reminding residents of the increasing frequency of such incidents as human development encroaches on habitats. According to ClickOrlando, a resident and neighborhood adviser, Daniel Vhets, cautioned, "Watch your kids because they will drag a kid off, and you won't even know it," emphasizing the potential danger posed by these animals.
