Authorities have charged a man in connection with a fatal shooting in the Bronx that stemmed from a dispute over a parking spot. Lavar Davis, 46, was arrested on murder charges after allegedly shooting 49-year-old Trevor Hughes early Saturday morning, as reported by the Daily News. The incident reportedly occurred when Hughes discovered his driveway was blocked by a car on Fowler Ave. near Morris Park Ave.
According to the Daily News, an altercation unfolded after two men who had been at a nearby nightclub returned to the car that was obstructing Hughes' driveway. Tensions escalated and in a video witnessed by the publication, an argument ensues where one man, presumably Davis, is heard saying, "I don’t see the f—ing driveway! I don’t see that." During the confrontation, witnesses claim bullets were fired by both men at Hughes; one of which fatally struck him in the abdomen, as detailed by the Daily News.
Hughes, a father of four who worked as a locksmith and a DJ, called 311 and the local precinct upon finding the blocked driveway, later leading to the unfortunate encounter that cost him his life. As characterized by the police and captured on video later viewed by the Daily News, Hughes was seen opening his driveway gate to show how the other man's car was indeed blocking his path out.
Found in the Williamsbridge section of the Bronx, Davis, the suspect, awaits his arraignment in Bronx Criminal Court, as per the Daily News. Meanwhile, after being rushed to Jacobi Medical Center, Hughes was pronounced dead, with a witness recounting to News 12 that the fatal shooting occurred following an argument that erupted over the parking spot prior to Hughes being shot.
The search for the second shooter involved in the incident is ongoing. Any individuals with further information are encouraged to reach out to the authorities as the investigation continues to unfold.
