
A tragic incident inside the Eastside District Court in Baltimore has concluded with the death of Garry Wright, 35, from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. According to the Independent Investigations Division of the Maryland Office of the Attorney General, Wright succumbed to his injuries on Saturday, after the event which took place on Jan. 31. In a statement detailed by WBAL-TV, Baltimore Police Commissioner Richard Worley described Wright as "clearly suffering from behavioral crisis," as he entered the courthouse and exhibited erratic behavior.
According to FOX Baltimore, during the incident, Wright, having never reached the security checkpoint, withdrew a firearm and pointed it at his head, pacing near the courthouse's door. At this time, Gary Brown, identified by the Independent Investigations Division as a 1-year veteran bailiff, drew his weapon and, in a subsequent interaction between the two, shots were discharged. Wright, struck by a bullet in his lower extremities, fatally shot himself in the head.
Chaos erupted in the courthouse as witnesses fled for safety. A bullet shattered a glass door. A doctor on-site provided aid until paramedics arrived. Wright was taken to the hospital in critical condition but did not survive. Investigators are reviewing security footage to understand the shooting.
