An incident last night has left a 52-year-old man dead after a Michigan State Trooper shot him during a response to a domestic altercation in Port Huron Township. According to a report by MLive, Michigan State Police and St. Clair County Sheriff’s deputies arrived at the scene after receiving a call concerning a domestic disturbance.

The situation rapidly escalated when the man, allegedly armed with a gun, exited the home and began to make threats against the authorities. A news release from the Michigan State Police, obtained by Audacy, detailed that the man was "uncooperative, making threats and refusing multiple commands from officers to drop the gun." In response to the imminent threat, a trooper was forced to shoot the armed individual fatally.

The incident prompted immediate medical aid at the scene, but despite these efforts, the man was pronounced dead upon arrival at a local hospital. FOX 2 Detroit highlighted that the incident occurred around 7:50 p.m. yesterday after family members had called 911 during a dispute with the man.

Per standard procedure, the trooper involved in the shooting has been placed on leave to allow the proper investigation of the circumstances of the incident. The Michigan State Police 2nd District Special Investigation Section, along with the Northville Michigan State Police Crime Lab, is now conducting a thorough investigation. As the authorities have stated, the findings from this inquiry will eventually be turned over to the Michigan Attorney General's Office for review.
