An incident occurred last night at the Delta Park Transit Station in North Portland where a man, reported to be in his mid-30s, lost his life after being struck by a MAX train. KOIN informed that Portland Fire and Rescue were called to the scene at 8:34 p.m. but were unable to save the individual.
Additional details from the Multnomah County Sheriff's Office, as reported by KGW, indicate that the incident involved the man attempting to move between two cars of the moving train and becoming caught by the couplers that connect the rail cars, as described by Deputy John Plock. The official cause of death, still to be determined by medical examiners, will depend on the identification of the victim, though blunt-force trauma is believed to be the cause of death.
TriMet spokesperson Tia York expressed sympathy for those impacted by the accident, according to KATU. York pleaded for vigilance in and around train vicinities and the usage of designated crossing points in an effort to prevent such occurrences.
Following the collision, the MAX Yellow Line experienced disruptions, and TriMet immediately implemented shuttle buses to ferry passengers between North Lombard Transit Center and Expo Center, services have since been resumed with added shuttles to bridge the affected segments, as per KGW.
