A tense situation unfolded in Marshall County when a man barricaded himself and his toddler inside a home on Highway 309 South, leading to a standoff with multiple law enforcement agencies. Action News 5 reported the situation began around 11:30 p.m., with the initial domestic call involving the man, a woman, assumed to be the mother and their young child.

The Marshall County Sheriff's Office Public Relations Officer, Kelly McMillen, informed that the mother was able to escape the premises but the child was left behind. Fortunately, the toddler was later released unharmed, although the father remained inside the house as of 2 p.m., as indicated by authorities.

According to FOX13, the sheriff's office confirmed the child was safely in custody after the event. DeSoto County SWAT, Marshall County SWAT, and the Mississippi Highway Patrol were among the multiple agencies that responded to the location.

As a consequence of the police activity, authorities closed the highway in both directions, causing significant disruptions. Residents and commuters were asked to avoid the 2500 block of Highway 309 South, "All we’re assuming is he is armed with possibly two handguns," McMillen told WREG. The situation also affected local school bus routes and student arrival times within the affected area.

Local resident Jonathan Strausser expressed his concern in a statement obtained by WREG: "He’s being very selfish and he needs to let his child go and surrender himself. I just can’t imagine the mother of the child – as she was able to escape from the situation, what she’s dealing with, and how she’s dealing with it right now." Strausser, notably a disabled veteran, sympathized with the family's plight as he anticipates the birth of his child.
