The establishment, a stalwart of Southern comfort food since 1945, suffered serious structural impairments last March, forcing it to shutter partially.
With the Skyline Room and Ms. Ellen’s Room welcoming patrons once again, the historic spot on Ponce de Leon Avenue not only resumed what it does best – dishing out heaping plates of authentic Southern cuisine – but also wrapped up a series of renovations, including new carpets and a fresh coat of paint, as reported by FOX 5 Atlanta. Adding a literal sweetener to the occasion, Mary Mac’s is serving up complimentary peach cobbler to diners from February 17 to February 23 as a gesture of gratitude for the community's sustained support.
Renowned for its expansive 13,000-square-foot space that extends over six dining areas and a full-service bar, Mary Mac's history is peppered with visits by notable figures – from the Dalai Lama to the late President Jimmy Carter. This legacy of hospitality and culinary heritage was even acknowledged by the State of Georgia with a special resolution, dubbing the restaurant as "Atlanta’s Dining Room."
Chad Reynolds, the director of operations for Mary Mac’s, expressed the establishment's integral role in the community, citing the anticipation surrounding the return to its full glory. "The Skyline Room and Ms. Ellen’s Room are essential parts of Mary Mac’s, as much as our delicious menu of authentic meatloaf, fried chicken, seafood, and other Southern favorites," Reynolds told WSB-TV. He shared anecdotes of patrons eager to recreate their cherished moments within its walls – from wedding anniversaries and graduations to memorable gatherings with friends and family.
