Bracing for the chill of the coming weather, Mecklenburg County has decided a slow start to the day is the safest bet. Anticipating adverse conditions, the county's offices and facilities will throw open their doors on a two-hour delay today, as announced on Mecklenburg County website. The precautionary measure covers a breadth of county functions from DSS Child, Family, and Adult Services to the community resource centers and beyond.
The Department of Social Services remains a beacon, with hotlines for abuse and neglect that know no pause. Even with the delayed schedule, those in dire need can still report abuse of seniors or the disabled by ringing 704-336-CARE (2273). The abuse, neglect, or human trafficking of children take no respite against the weather, hence the 980-31-HELPS (43577) number stands ready.
The delay affects key county offices, including the Tax Collector, County Assessor, Register of Deeds, and Land Use and Environmental Services. The Elections Office will also start later. According to the county, public access to these services will be briefly paused due to the morning frost.
