Historic Latta Place is one step closer to reopening its doors as Mecklenburg County prepares to share the final design with the community. Scheduled for March 20, a meeting at the North County Regional Library in Huntersville will reveal the envisioned updates for the site, according to an announcement from Mecklenburg County.

At this upcoming gathering, residents of Mecklenburg County, are invited to engage with the plans for the first time, arriving by 5:30 p.m. at the library situated at 16500 Holly Crest Lane and lasting until 7:30 p.m. The officials will discuss the extensive community engagement and meticulous planning behind the project, aiming to reflect the comprehensive history of Latta Place. Registration for the event is encouraged, directing interested public to the Historic Latta Reimagined Public Input page.

Before its closure in 2021, Latta Place offered an immersive trip into the life of the 19th century in the Carolina backcountry. The updates to both the landscape and the built environment are a product of thorough historical research, community input, and careful deliberation about the County’s past, according to the information provided by the County Manager Dena R. Diorio. "We took our time to create a design and plan that reflects Latta Place’s full history with care and a deeper understanding of the strength and sacrifices of those who came before us," she told Mecklenburg County.

With the reopening set for 2026, the rejuvenation process is centered around the principles of truth, transparency, compassion, transformation, and unity.
