Yesterday, a routine operation by the Memphis Police Department turned up more than they were ostensibly searching for in the 2800 block of Hibiscus Lane. As they executed a search warrant in the pursuit of one Jeremiah Cotton, a 19-year-old wanted for a string of violent crimes, officers were met with not just their suspect but also a stash of illegal substances and weaponry. According to the Memphis Police Department, Cotton now faces charges beyond his initial arrest warrant.
The Memphis Police state that during the operation conducted by Austin Peay GIB and the MPD Fugitive Team, besides apprehending Cotton, they found marijuana and two firearms, with one sporting a switch – a device that converts firearms into automatic weapons and is illegal under federal law. Having been sought for Attempted First Degree Murder, Especially Aggravated Robbery, Aggravated Assault, and Employment of a Firearm during the Commission of a Dangerous Felony, he will now also answer to charges including, but not limited to, Possession of Marijuana with Intent to Manufacture/Deliver/Sell and Possession of a Prohibited Weapon.
