Memphis Police Seek Tips in Spree of Shoplifting Cases Across Local Discount StoresSource: Facebook/Memphis Police Department est.1827

The Memphis Police Department is seeking information on a series of shoplifting incidents that have occurred across the city. In the span of two weeks, beginning on February 3, various discount stores have been targeted, resulting in several hundreds of dollars in stolen merchandise.

Each incident details descriptions of the suspected individuals involved, including the theft at Family Dollar on Frayser Boulevard on February 10, where a man estimated to be between 40 and 45 years old lifted a bed comforter set, an air mattress, and paper towels, escaping with items worth an estimated $82. No suspects have been apprehended, and the investigation is active, as announced by the department in a Facebook post.

Following a similar pattern, another shoplifting incident was reported at a Dollar Tree on Perkins Road on February 11. The suspect attempted to make a purchase but then seized roughly $380 from the cashier before fleeing. Here too, the Memphis Police provided a specific description of the suspect as a Black male in his mid-thirties to forties, wearing distinctive clothing, including a gray ball cap and a blue jacket. These details aim to assist the public in identifying the perpetrator, who remains at large.

More incidents include two women shoplifting an estimated $500 worth of products from Marshalls on Covington Pike on February 3 and a duo stealing $700 worth of clothing from the same store on February 12. The suspects in these cases also escaped, and anyone with information is encouraged to contact the authorities with details that might aid in their capture. In another shoplifting incident at O'Reilly Auto Parts on Thomas Street on February 14, an older man impersonated a customer seeking help with a battery, only to seize a new one valued at $293 and leave the premises. The department has provided a photo to help the public identify the suspect and assist in their ongoing efforts to halt these criminal activities.

Memphis Police continue to piece together these incidents and urge the public to report any information that could lead to arrests, particularly regarding a theft at Dollar General on Ramill Road and another at Family Dollar on James Road, where suspects eluded capture after allegedly committing their crimes. Through social media outreach and public assistance, officers hope to bring those responsible to justice and prevent further losses to local Memphis stores targeted in these shoplifting cases.
