As snowstorms continue in Metro Detroit, volunteers are helping senior citizens with snow removal. Teams from The Lawn Academy and the City of Detroit's Serve Detroit Snow Team are clearing sidewalks and driveways in neighborhoods like Hamtramck and McDougall Street. Despite cold conditions, volunteers continue their efforts. CBS News Detroit reports that Turrean from The Lawn Academy said, "Whenever it snows, we come out. It's the love for the elderly people because they can't do it for themselves so that's why I'm here to do it for them."
The Serve Detroit Snow Team, part of the city's Department of Neighborhoods, is seeking volunteers to help with snow removal. Volunteers must provide their own transportation, while snow removal tools are available upon request. According to ClickOnDetroit, participants should be between the ages of 13 and 60. The program assists senior and disabled residents with snow clearing.
Around 150 volunteers in Detroit are helping seniors and disabled residents with snow removal. Resident Pauline Young expressed her gratitude, saying, "I thank you all. I really thank you all for being so good and understanding to us older peoples," as mentioned by CBS News Detroit. Hunter Thomas, a 10-year-old volunteer, said, "I feel like I’m doing good deeds." Those in need of assistance or interested in volunteering can find information on the city's website or call (313) 224-4415, as stated by WXYZ.
