The Michigan Gaming Control Board (MGCB) has issued cease-and-desist letters to nine online casinos operating without proper licenses in a decisive move to crack down on illegal online gambling. The websites in question, including BetAnySports, CoolCat Casino, and WagerWeb, have been offering a variety of casino-style games and betting services in violation of state gaming regulations.
According to a Michigan Government press release, the MGCB's Executive Director Henry Williams has voiced concerns, saying, "These unlicensed operators are not only in violation of Michigan’s laws but also pose significant risks to consumers by offering limited and often unreliable withdrawal options." This move follows a startling report by the American Gaming Association (AGA) indicating that Americans wager over $510 billion annually with illegal and unregulated gambling entities. These unchecked activities are estimated to cost an alarming $13.3 billion in lost tax revenue annually.
The violation of state laws includes operating without a Michigan gambling license, a serious offense under both the Lawful Internet Gaming Act and the Michigan Gaming Control and Revenue Act. The operators now face a deadline of 14 days to cease their operations in the state or confront potential legal consequences.
