A spate of gunfire has led to serious charges for a Mississippi man after a confrontation outside a Memphis club escalated into violence. Klaybon Kobeck, 20, of Hernando, has been charged with eight counts of attempted second-degree murder, employment of a firearm with the intent to commit a felony and vandalism, according to a report from WREG. The incident occurred early this month outside Rooster's Blues House on South Highland Street.
The events unfolded after a verbal altercation between Kobeck and a group at the restaurant, which turned physical. During the fight, he allegedly grabbed one of the women from the group, leading to further tensions. After attempting to leave the premises in their car, the victims found themselves under fire; Kobeck is accused of shooting multiple times at the vehicle, striking a 19-year-old woman in the wrist and side. The woman, as reported by officers responding to the incident, received medical attention at Baptist East and was expected to recover from her injuries, detailed Action News 5.
Memphis Police Department responded to the shooting at Baptist East, where the injured party was found, as revealed in the police report. They stated that the altercation was sparked when Kobeck allegedly began firing at the victims’ Honda Pilot as they were driving away. As told by a victim to the police, none of the group knew Kobeck before the incident. The case, which saw Kobeck booked into the Shelby County jail, promises significant legal repercussions for the young man's alleged actions.
Kobeck was taken into custody this past Sunday, with law enforcement officials spearheading the investigation into this violence that has jarred the Highland Strip community. Expected to appear in court on Tuesday. Details concerning Kobeck's bond have not been publicly disclosed at the time of writing. This was based on records highlighted by FOX13 Memphis, which also noted the shooting occurred just before 1:30 a.m. on February 9.
