In a recent verdict that has concluded a three-year ordeal, a Genesee County jury has delivered guilty verdicts on a mother, Windy Marie Weatherford, 49, and her son, Deondre Dawayne McLilly, 25, both residents of Grand Blanc Township. The pair was convicted of second-degree murder in the fatal shooting of Alicia Jackson-Skaggs, a 20-year-old woman, according to ABC12.
The shooting, which took place in March 2022, in the parking lot of a Golden Corral on Miller Road, ended in the victim suffering a fatal gunshot wound to the head. Testimony shows that before this tragic outcome, Jackson-Skaggs and two other individuals had a confrontation with McLilly and Weatherford at a Culver's drive-thru, spotted their pursuers, and attempted to exit the parking lot to avoid them. Despite their efforts to flee, McLilly discharged two shots at Jackson-Skaggs' vehicle, igniting a high-speed chase which, exceeded 70 mph around Flint Township, as WNEM reports.
Upon reaching the Golden Corral, McLilly approached the car and opened fire once more, with at least one bullet striking Jackson-Skaggs in the head, as described by MidMichiganNow. The suspects were later spotted and apprehended by Michigan State Police on I-75. McLilly resisted arrest, leading to a chase on foot before he was ultimately detained. Weatherford was arrested on the freeway.
Genesee County Prosecutor David Leyton briefed reporters, "McLilly and the deceased victim had an on-again, off-again volatile relationship and had been in an argument earlier in the day but it in absolutely no way justifies what transpired that evening," ABC12 outlined. Leyton further highlighted the tragedy of the event occurring on one of the most prominent commercial strips in Genesee County.
