The National Weather Service in New Orleans has issued a dense fog advisory, alerting residents and commuters of reduced visibility across portions of southeast Louisiana and southern Mississippi. The advisory remains in effect until 10 AM CST this morning. Commuters are advised to exercise caution due to visibility being reduced to one quarter mile or less in dense fog, which could create hazardous driving conditions. In a statement released by the National Weather Service, motorists are advised that "if driving, slow down, use your low beam headlights, and leave plenty of distance ahead of you."
The coverage area affected by the fog includes major cities and communities, where the dense fog has blanketed areas from Jean Lafitte to Vancleave, encompassing a wide swath of the region. As per the National Weather Service's forecast, today's weather otherwise appears to be mostly sunny following the fog's dissipation, with a calm wind turning northwest around 5 mph and the temperature climbing to a high near 69 degrees.
Looking ahead, the weather in New Orleans is expected to stay relatively mild and partly cloudy tonight, with patchy fog redeveloping after 4 AM. The National Weather Service advises that throughout this period, overnight lows are expected to hover around the low to mid-50s.
