Oakland's own "Jeopardy!" legend Amy Schneider hit a bump in the road during the latest "Jeopardy! Invitational Tournament" (JIT) episode, which aired on Monday. Pitted against Luigi de Guzman and Avi Gupta, the former champion failed to replicate her historic winning form from her previous runs on the venerable quiz show. As reported by the San Francisco Chronicle, Schneider had a slow start and couldn't catch up with the buzzsaw that was Guzman, an attorney from Virginia, who was on fire throughout the game.
Despite her efforts and even leading at one point thanks to a correct response about the famous battle of Thermopylae, Schneider's $10,000 wager in the Final Jeopardy round dashed her hopes when all three contestants incorrectly identified F. Scott Fitzgerald as the answer to the final clue. Guzman, with a more conservative wager of $4,801, emerged victorious with $18,799, while Schneider finished at $4,200 and Gupta at $4,367. "Nothing I can do but tip my cap to @ouij on that one," said Schneider, according to TV Insider when discussing Guzman's performance, "I mean, come on, he successfully buzzed in on 31/60 clues! Just sheer dominance."
Despite Schneider's loss, support for her remained strong across social media platforms and the "Jeopardy!" In the Reddit forum, fans admired her previous achievements and her elegance in accepting defeat. While some fans indicated a desire to see new talent on the show for a while, others maintained their fondness for Schneider, underlining her inspirational contribution not just to the game but to the broader community.
And Schneider isn't letting a single setback keep her down: she's actively promoting her new book, "Who Is Amy Schneider?", geared towards middle-school readers, the San Francisco Chronicle noted. The book, due out on March 4, is an adaptation of her 2023 memoir, "In the Form of a Question: The Joys and Rewards of a Curious Life."
