An active shooter incident at the Main Event entertainment center in Highlands Ranch, Colorado, late last night left one man dead and a woman injured, according to the Douglas County Sheriff's Office. Deputies responded to 911 calls shortly before midnight at the location on 64 Centennial Blvd. The first deputy to arrive on the scene confronted a male suspect in the parking lot, armed and noncompliant with orders to drop his weapon. The encounter escalated quickly, leading to the deputy discharging his firearm, and fatally striking the suspect.
Despite lifesaving attempts by deputies, the male was pronounced dead shortly after the shooting. The incident spilled over into the interior of the Main Event, where a female victim was discovered with a gunshot wound. Her injuries were serious enough to require transportation to a hospital, but she is expected to survive. Another woman, involved indirectly, was also taken to a hospital due to a medical issue, officials confirmed it was non-life-threatening.
The investigation, still in its early stages, has revealed that the shooter was a woman, now in custody. Her motives and the sequence of events leading to the tragedy are still being pieced together as detectives interview several witnesses. As obtained by the Douglas County Sheriff's Office, they have reassured the public that there is no further threat following the incident.
