An Oregon man, identified as 27-year-old Cristian Custodio-Aquino of Portland, has been arrested in connection to the death of New Jersey veterinarian Dr. Michael Anthony. Custodio-Aquino is accused of stabbing Dr. Anthony multiple times leading to his death, as reported by NBC Philadelphia. The incident took place in December last year and has since been under rigorous investigation.
Dr. Anthony's unresponsive body was discovered by a neighbor on the morning of December 10, 2024, outside his home on Sharrowvalle Road in Cherry Hill. The Camden County Prosecutor's Office and Cherry Hill police worked together to surely and methodically track down the suspect, eventually leading to the arrest of Custodio-Aquino in Fresno, California by U.S. Marshals, as detailed by FOX 29 News. The suspect was charged with murder last Friday, ahead of his arrest on Tuesday.
The 45-year-old veterinarian, widely known for his dedication to animal care and as the owner of Haddon Vet, was pronounced dead on the scene. His death shook the community that held him in affectionate regard, both for his professional excellence and his love for animals. "Dr. Anthony was the owner of Haddon Vet, a practice based in Haddon Heights, New Jersey. Those who knew him described him as a lifelong lover of animals who was great at what he did," a local resident told NBC Philadelphia, in a statement reflective of the widespread respect for the veterinarian.
Currently, Custodio-Aquino is detained at the Fresno County Jail, awaiting extradition to New Jersey. Camden County officials and Cherry Hill Police are continuing to ask anyone with additional information to come forward, providing contact details for Detective Daniel Crawford from the Camden County Prosecutor's Office Homicide Unit and Detective Frank Kirsch of the Cherry Hill Police Department. Tips can also to be sent through CAMDEN.TIPS, as urged in a statement released by the prosecutor's office and obtained by CBS News Philadelphia.
