An Overland police officer is facing serious charges after a domestic incident involving his pregnant wife. Derrick S. Godfrey, the officer in question, has been charged with first-degree harassment, a class E felony, third-degree kidnapping, and fourth-degree domestic assault, as reported by First Alert 4. These charges stem from an altercation that allegedly took place earlier this week.
Court records obtained by Fox2Now reveal that Godfrey's wife agreed to meet him at a St. Louis County location. During this meeting, Godfrey reportedly took her phone and wallet, refusing to give them back. A St. Louis County Police Department's probable cause statement further details an instance where Godfrey sped away in his vehicle with his wife unable to exit.
According to the victim's account in charging documents, a confrontation occurred again later that day at Godfrey's residence. As the victim was leaving, Godfrey is accused of physically restraining her against a car. This was only halted when an onlooker intervened, as "a passerby yelled to leave her alone," First Alert 4 reports.
After the reported incident, Godfrey no longer holds a position with the Overland Police Department, though the timing of his departure remains unspecified in a statement by an agency spokesperson: "Derrick Godfrey however, is not employed by the City of Overland at this time," as mentioned on First Alert 4. The former officer is currently held at the St. Louis County Jail with bond set at $25,000 cash only, with no immediate court appearance scheduled, as confirmed by STL Today.
