An early morning tragedy unfolded in Oxnard when a man was fatally shot on the 100 block of South H Street, as reported by the Oxnard Police Department. The victim, identified as 39-year-old Ruben Villa, an Oxnard resident, was found by law enforcement officers suffering from gunshot wounds on SUnday, around 4:32 a.m.
The arriving officers attempted to immediately administer life-saving measures while awaiting Emergency Medical Services (EMS). Despite efforts quickly to try and save him, the victim succumbed to his injuries. "Officers began life saving measures and EMS Personnel quickly arrived and treated Mr. Villa. Unfortunately, despite life saving measures Mr. Villa succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead," was detailed in the information provided by the Oxnard Police Department.
The case has been turned over to the Oxnard Police Department Major Crimes Unit, which is actively investigating the circumstances that led to Villa’s death. Detective Ricardo Vega is leading the search for answers and has issued a public appeal for support, urging anyone with information regarding the shooting to come forward.
The city is offering a $25,000 reward hoping to encourage to come forward anyone who may have details that could lead to the arrest and conviction of the perpetrator(s). According to the official release, "The city of Oxnard offers a reward of $25,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of any individuals responsible for committing homicides within the city."
