
Early this morning in Long Beach, a pedestrian tragically lost her life after being struck by a vehicle while walking in a marked crosswalk. The incident occurred at the intersection of Long Beach Boulevard and Willow Street at 6:45 a.m., KTLA reported. According to the Long Beach Police Department, a 2005 GMC vehicle was making a right turn from Willow Street onto Long Beach Boulevard when it collided with the woman.
The Long Beach authorities and bystanders administered medical aid to the unconscious pedestrian before she was transported to a local hospital, but despite their efforts, she was later declared deceased, the police department's diligent efforts to save her life by rushing to her aid, with bystanders by their side, they could not overturn the cruel twist of fate that laid bare on the asphalt. The driver, a 61-year-old Long Beach resident, remained at the scene and cooperated fully with the ensuing investigation, according to a press release by the Long Beach Police Department. Authorities currently do not suspect impairment as a contributing factor in this unfortunate event.
The identity of the pedestrian will be kept private for the time being, as officials await the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s process of notifying the next of kin. The department has made a call for witnesses to come forward with any pertinent information about the collision, potentially aiding in the ongoing investigation.
