From February 10 to February 16, Hawai'i Island police arrested 21 drivers for DUI. Seven of these arrests were related to traffic crashes, and two involved drivers under the legal drinking age, according to the Hawai‘i Police Department.

DUI arrests have slightly decreased, with 127 this year compared to 130 at the same time in 2024, a drop of just over 2%. However, fatalities have increased, with six fatal crashes and seven deaths this year, up from five crashes and five fatalities last year. The Hawai'i Police Department's Traffic Services Section is analyzing the crashes, noting a reduction in major crashes, with 113 this year compared to 119 last year.

The island continues its efforts to combat impaired driving, with DUI patrols and checkpoints remaining active. No non-traffic fatalities have been reported so far, the same as last year. DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue across the island, with the Hawai'i Police Department maintaining a strong presence on highways and side streets. These efforts are part of the ongoing initiative to ensure road safety, as reported by the Hawai‘i Police Department.
