The dining scene in Phoenix is about to lose one of its unique spots, as ComicXUSA has announced the closure of its Desert Ridge Marketplace location at the end of February. According to ABC15, the restaurant known for its fusion of food and comic book culture will shut its doors on February 23rd, less than six years after throwing open said doors to scores of pop culture enthusiasts.
The company expressed their gratitude and invited fans for a final round of celebrations, stating, "We can't thank you enough for your support, your laughter, and the countless memories we've created together," and they didn't stop there, they sent an open invitation for "one last adventure, one last meal, one last toast, and one last chance to celebrate the memories" with ComicX. The restaurant opened in 2020 following a soft opening in December 2019, bringing a new theme-based dining experience for fans of various franchises.
ComicX wasn't just another themed eatery; it carved out its niche by boasting a two-story layout dedicated to an array of pop culture references. The second floor was a haven for Star Wars aficionados, with several statutes and themed dining areas to enhance the experience. A report by Legion of Sand detailed this allure and even mentioned the tucked-away Ryan Reynolds Green Lantern, which was "a nice touch" for visitors.
Price-wise, ComicX positioned itself competitively within the market, with a meal costing around $14 before tip, aligning with venues like Dave & Busters offering similar casual American fare. The menu featured a range of staple choices from burgers to pasta – a typical spread for a family-friendly restaurant, but it was the cool aesthetic that likely pulled patrons in initially, giving them enough reason to overlook the standard menu offerings and focus on the unique atmosphere filled with memorabilia and themed decor.
