Last Saturday, the Piedmont Police Department reported a routine traffic stop that became much more than a simple vehicle code violation. Just before 1:00 pm, a white Ford Expedition caught Officer Singh's attention due to the absence of license plates.
Upon engaging with the driver, who, according to the Piedmont Police Department's Facebook post, attempted deception by providing a false identity, making the scene more suspicious, a subsequent VIN check confirmed that the vehicle was reported as stolen from Antioch PD. The unfolding scenario took a turn, reinforcing the officer's initial hunch. As law enforcement protocols took their course, detention followed questioning.
The passenger wasn't exempt from scrutiny and soon became ensnared in the grip of past decisions. An outstanding warrant from Livermore PD cast a shadow, along with the heavy weight of formal probation stemming from Contra Costa County. A search extended the narrative, revealing approximately 1,700 rounds of ammunition and a Sig Sauer P226 CO2 handgun. As convicted felons, laws dictated they were forbidden to possess such cargo.
Further investigation and inventory led to the duo's arrest. The driver was booked at Santa Rita Jail on charges implicating vehicle theft, felon in possession of ammunition, false identification, and driving with a suspended license, while the passenger faced the consequences of prior actions and was booked on possession of ammunition and the pre-existing warrant.
