Officers from the Rancho Cordova Police Department made an arrest after pursuing a suspect driving a stolen black Volkswagen Jetta. The chase began when officers saw the suspect committing a traffic violation at the intersection of Sunrise Blvd. and Zinfandel Drive, according to a Facebook post by the Rancho Cordova Police Department.
The pursuit intensified when the suspect refused to stop, leading to a high-speed chase on westbound Highway 50. Officers reported seeing the suspect throwing what appeared to be mail from the vehicle's windows. The California Highway Patrol assisted by deploying a spike strip, successfully ending the chase west of 65th Street, deflating the suspect's tires and immobilizing the vehicle.
A search of the vehicle revealed a large amount of stolen mail, mostly from local residents, confirming suspicions from the chase. According to Rancho Cordova Police Department, the car was also stolen from Sacramento and was using "cold plates," license plates stolen from similar vehicles to avoid detection.
In addition to the stolen items, the driver was found to be in possession of methamphetamine. Rancho Cordova Police Department's Facebook post stated, "This was another great example of proactive police work by RCPD officers to help keep the community safe!" The suspect was booked at Sacramento County Main Jail on multiple felony charges. The investigation is ongoing, with RCPD CSU, Detectives, and US Postal Service Inspectors involved.
