A verdict has been reached in a case that shook the community as it grappled with the disturbing details of the crime. Antoine James Garrett, a 38-year-old man, has been sentenced to 36 years in prison for sexual offenses involving a child. According to the Tarrant County District Attorney's Office, Garrett was found guilty by a jury of employing, authorizing, or inducing a child younger than 18 to engage in sexual conduct and indecency with a child.
In a case that started with an outcry from a 7-year-old boy in February 2022, the River Oaks Police Department was praised for their diligence and commitment to community safety. The young boy, whom Garrett had been a father figure to, reported that Garrett had inappropriately touched him and also exposed the boy to a sex toy.
The DA's office acknowledged the investigation and prosecution team on social media, mentioning Assistant District Attorneys Marina Thomas, Matt Hinojosa, DA Investigator Brent Ezelle, and Victim Coordinator Candace Burnett for their roles in securing the conviction.
