
Roland Garcia has been appointed as the new Port Commissioner of the Port of Houston Authority for a two-year term by Mayor John Whitmire and the Houston City Council. Garcia has experience in maritime issues and has held leadership roles such as Vice Chair of the Board of Pilot Commissioners for Harris County Ports and Co-Chair of the Mayor's Hispanic Advisory Board. He is also involved with the Greater Houston Partnership and the Harris County Hospital District Foundation. Garcia previously served as a board member of the Harris County - Houston Sports Authority, according to the City of Houston.
Mayor Whitmire expressed confidence in Roland Garcia's leadership, citing his experience in maritime issues and his role in leading the transition of the newly created Pilot Board. "Roland has experience working on maritime issues, has chaired the transition of the newly created Pilot Board, is passionate about the community, and understands the power of collaboration. I know he will strongly advocate for the Port's continued growth and success, which significantly contributes to our economy and job creation," Whitmire said in a statement, as reported by the City of Houston.
Garcia, a graduate of Baylor University and South Texas College of Law, has nearly four decades of legal experience, including representing the Port of Houston in key cases. He is also a founding member of the international law firm Greenberg Traurig, LLP. Garcia has been appointed to a leadership role at Port Houston, the nation's busiest waterway. He expressed his gratitude, saying, "I am grateful to Mayor Whitmire and members of Houston city council for their confidence in me to serve in this important role. Port Houston is the busiest waterway in the nation and vital to the region's economy. I look forward to building on the legacy while working with my fellow commissioners and Port Houston's executive leadership," as stated by the City of Houston.
