A South Bay woman's attempt to smuggle drugs into a San Diego County jail was thwarted when deputies intercepted mail soaked with narcotics. According to the San Diego County Sheriff's Office, Destiny Gomez is now facing multiple charges after being identified as the sender of drug-laced letters to an inmate at the George Bailey Detention Facility.
In January 2025, vigilant deputies working at the Sheriff's Mail Processing Center were able to suspect and uncover materials intended for inmate Herminio Cendejas, whose date of birth is listed as February 24, 1986. The deputies then began to closely scrutinize the mail closely, eventually finding substances they believed to be narcotics. The subsequent criminal investigation by the Sheriff's Detention Investigations Unit didn't take long to purportedly trace the drugs back to Gomez, born on September 22, 1997.
The investigation climaxed on February 6 when DIU detectives served a search warrant at Gomez's residence in Chula Vista. "During the search, detectives located materials Gomez used to produce the drug laced mail, including methamphetamine in plain sight," reported the San Diego County Sheriff's Office. This discovery led to her immediate arrest on serious charges, including sending a controlled substance into jail, conspiracy to commit a felony, and felony child endangerment.
Following the operation, Gomez was booked into the Las Colinas Detention and Reentry Facility.
