Scottsdale's Parks and Recreation department has served up a partnership with Scottsdale Community College (SCC) to expand pickleball action in the city, addressing a surge in interest for the sport among locals. The new arrangement opens doors to six pickleball courts on the SCC campus, right near the Fitness Wellness Center, for free drop-in play—available from the early hours of 6 a.m. to the evenings at 8 p.m., ensuring ample time for community members to engage in what has become more than just a passing trend, according to the City of Scottsdale.
While the court's beckon players daily, there are of course notable exclusions like holidays, campus closures, and instances when SCC holds its pickleball classes, those eager to learn the game can also anticipate instruction-based programs at a nominal fee information about which the details still to come, will populate SCC's website when ready. The City of Scottsdale leaned on its residents during the Parks and Recreation Master Plan process to understand their recreational preferences, with pickleball ranking as one of the top five most wanted activities, prompting this initiative to enhance Scottsdale's recreational repertoire.
City officials like Community Services Assistant Executive Director Nick Molinari see this as more than just a service improvement—it's a reflection of Scottsdale's commitment to its residents’ recreational needs and the shared vision with SCC, "This partnership allows us to meet the growing demand for pickleball use in Scottsdale," he affirmed, as stated by the City of Scottsdale.
