The annual Cultural Exchange in Sterling Heights will take place on March 7 from 6 to 10 p.m. at the Community Center, located at 40250 Dodge Park. According to the City of Sterling Heights website, the event is free to the public and will feature ethnic music, dance, educational displays, and international food. Overflow parking is available at City Hall and the 41A District Court.
This year’s Cultural Exchange, sponsored by the Sterling Heights Ethnic Community Committee, will celebrate the diverse ethnicities in the area. Visitors can enjoy desserts, bread, and light snacks from local restaurants. Cultural groups will have displays and stands, and local businesses and groups are invited to participate by sponsoring or contributing food, knowledge, or performances.
Abbott Basal, chairperson of the Ethnic Community Committee, emphasized the importance of unity. “The evening is really a great chance for people of various ethnic and cultural backgrounds to celebrate their similarities more than their differences,” Basal said in the City of Sterling Heights' announcement. The committee, which has been active since 1990, works to foster understanding among the city’s diverse ethnic groups.
For those interested in contributing or learning more about the event, businesses can sponsor and individuals can share their cultural heritage or perform. For more information, contact 586-446-2473.
