A Sterling Heights man, Charles Lowe, 37, was recently arraigned on charges of failing to pay over $21,000 in child support. The Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office investigated and determined that Lowe had the ability to pay but did not comply with payment requirements, according to the Macomb County.

A child support order was issued by Macomb County Circuit Court Judge Tracey Yokich on April 30, 2009, but Lowe failed to pay. He was arraigned last Tuesday in the 41B District Court before Magistrate Ryan Zemke, who set his bond at $5,257. A Probable Cause Hearing is scheduled for March 4, at 8:30 a.m. before District Court Judge Jacob Femminineo, Jr. Macomb County Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido stated, "This father’s failure to provide the financial support owed to his child is not only a violation of the law but a failure to honor the most important duty a parent has."

The Family Division of the Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office handles felony nonsupport cases when the owed amount exceeds $5,000, no payments have been made for at least three months, and the noncustodial parent has the ability to pay. Those seeking to start a Child Support case can contact the Office of Child Support at (866) 540-0008, while cases involving arrears of $5,000 or more are directed to the Prosecutor’s Office Family Division at (586) 493-4488. The office enforces Michigan laws, and individuals accused of a crime are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
