A wild scene unfolded in Southern California as a stolen semi-truck evaded police across multiple counties in an overnight chase. The suspect was eventually apprehended, but not before leading authorities on a high-speed pursuit that traversed the San Gabriel Valley and ended with a crash in San Bernardino.
The incident began near the interchange of the 60 and 605 freeways in El Monte, as KTLA reports. The police sought assistance around 12:36 a.m. Wednesday, and what followed was a dangerous game of cat and mouse that spanned over nearly three hours. Although the exact route was not confirmed, the chase led authorities into San Bernardino County, with the truck swerving recklessly across all lanes of traffic, as captured on video.
The pursuit came to a head when the stolen big rig crashed into the 210 Freeway's center divider in San Bernardino, leading to the driver attempting to flee on foot. After a tense moment, the chase ended with the suspect's capture at approximately 3 a.m., according to ABC7. This dramatic conclusion took place on an eastbound 210 Freeway off-ramp in the city.
Authorities transferred the pursuit to the California Highway Patrol, as stated by a CHP spokesperson in a statement obtained by NBC Los Angeles. The individual leading the chase was finally taken into custody at the end of the ordeal. As of now, no injuries have been reported in connection with the incident, and details regarding the suspect's identity and the charges they may be facing have not been released.
