A somber discovery in Southfield yesterday morning as local police, along with the Southfield Fire Department, were called to the scene of an unresponsive individual in a parking lot, leading to a suspect's arrest. According to CBS News Detroit, officials found an adult male with what appeared to be a fatal gunshot wound to the head at the Riverstone Apartments located on the 25000 block of Shiawassee Road around 10:14 a.m., where they pronounced him dead on the scene. Subsequent reports from authorities have determined that the victim and perpetrator were acquainted, reducing concerns for wider public safety issues.
The Southfield Police swiftly took a 28-year-old man from Southfield into custody for questioning. Further updates from police indicate no ongoing danger to the community. This aligns with details from a report by The Oakland Press that originally described the suspect as having fled but now reassures residents that the initial threat seems contained.
Witnesses and residents were left startled by the incident, as shared by WXYZ, who interviewed Constance McQueen, a resident who observed a significant police presence when she peeked out the window, and Brock Stieb, who mentioned, "This is not something that’s ever happened here where everyone I talked to int he neighborhood has always felt safe." Meanwhile, Stieb also articulated the communal shock, saying, “Everyone here is pretty shaken up about it.”
As the Southfield police continue their investigation into this tragic occurrence, they urge anyone with relevant information to step forward and contact the department at (248) 796-5500 to aid in piecing together the events that led to the untimely death of the victim.
