A 16-year-old student was stabbed and injured in the Bronx while on his way to school this morning, authorities said. The incident occurred close to John F. Kennedy High School, at the intersection of Terrace View Avenue and Tibbett Avenue. The New York Police Department reported that they found the teenager at around 8:45 a.m., suffering from a stab wound in his abdomen, according to Gothamist.

The young man, whose identity remained unnamed, was quickly transported to NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital. The NYPD stated he was in stable condition, yet the events that led to the stabbing were still under investigation. Rushing the teen to safety, the NYPD officers were reported by CBS New York, to have acted quickly upon arrival at the scene.

The Department of Education released a statement addressing the violence, asserting, "Violence has no place in our schools or our communities. This morning, after a non-school related incident outside of the building, on the perimeter of campus, our outstanding school staff provided the necessary supports, and NYPD responded," as obtained by CBS New York.

While local officials and the NYPD continue the investigation, no immediate arrests have been announced.
