Two people were injured in a head-on collision on Derby Road in Sidney Township, with one driver initially fleeing the scene. As reported by WOODTV, the incident occurred just after 7:45 p.m. on Tuesday when a southbound Chevy Silverado crossed the centerline and collided with a northbound Kia Sportage.

The driver of the Kia, identified as a 23-year-old man from New York, attempted to swerve to avoid the crash but was ultimately taken to the hospital with serious injuries; his condition is now reportedly stable, according to a Montcalm County Sheriff's Office (MCSO) statement detailed by WWMT, meanwhile, the 45-year-old man driving the Silverado fled the scene on foot before law enforcement arrived and was later found with minor injuries after he turned himself in the following morning, the MCSO stated, he is cooperating with the ongoing investigation.

The crash prompted the closure of the stretch of Derby Road between Holland Lake Road and Sidney Road for an estimated two and a half hours, which impacted traffic and required the collaboration of multiple departments, the Sheriff’s Office coordinated with Montcalm County Central Dispatch, Ionia County Sheriff’s Office, Montcalm County Emergency Services, Greenville Department of Public Safety, and Stanton Police Department in response to the incident.
