In Union County, the Sheriff's Office deputies have been setting impressive benchmarks for responding to and investigating motor vehicle collisions. In 2024, the UCSO reached a notable high, taking the lead in roadway safety and traffic incident management with a total of 1,924 investigated crashes, as reported on the Union County Sheriff's Office website.
Leading this charge was Deputy Chad Barbee, who set the new UCSO record by personally investigating 504 crashes throughout that year—the most ever by an individual deputy. Barbee's formidable effort underscores a broader commitment among local law enforcement to serve and protect the community. When he's not helping to maintain safety on the county's roads, Deputy Barbee also volunteers with Hometown Heroes, an organization dedicated to aiding families in need.
Sheriff Cathey commended the entire UCSO team for their unwavering commitment to their duties. "Sheriff Cathey is extremely proud of all the UCSO personnel who went above and beyond to conduct these investigations in 2024 and would like to thank each one of them for their dedication to keeping our roadways safe and assisting local drivers through these challenging events," was stated on their official publication.
This high mark in UCSO's crash-response efficacy highlights not only the department's responsiveness but also their proactive stance on community engagement. It's an approach that puts the wellbeing of Union County citizens at the forefront, whether they are on the road or in need of a supportive hand. For those who may find themselves in the midst of a motor vehicle collision, the message from UCSO is clear: their personnel are only a phone call away if needed.
