Tragedy struck a Middleville gymnastics center on Valentine's Day, leading to a structure being engulfed by flames. According to FOX 17, the fire started around 1 p.m. yesterday at Gymnastics In Motion (GIM), with no reported injuries as the building was empty at the time. The intensity of the inferno was such that an excavator was seen tearing down the fire-damaged walls on site.
In the battle against the blaze, responders faced a significant challenge in the form of a lack of hydrants in the vicinity, necessitating water to be brought in by tankers. "Fire officials told 13 ON YOUR SIDE there were no hydrants in the area, so they had to bring in fresh tankers full of water to battle the blaze." As of the most recent reports, the building is expected to be a total loss.
The community feels the impact of the disaster, with GIM stating on their Facebook page about the difficulty in comprehending the events, as noted by WZZM13. Amidst the loss, the owners urged respect for their privacy during a planned gymnastics meet, mentioning on their social media, "Please know that I am having an extremely difficult time and I want to ensure I can stay as strong as possible for the girls."
In a heartfelt statement shared with WOODTV8, GIM Athletics reflected on the loss of their beloved venue. "We are heartbroken to share that our family gymnastics gym has tragically burned to the ground today," the business wrote, "While we are devastated by this loss, we are incredibly grateful that no one was hurt or injured in the fire." The gym's operators are currently communicating future steps, including reimbursements and class credits, through their Facebook page.
