While many were celebrating love and affection on Valentine's Day, the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office (JSO) was serving a search warrant in the Mixon Town area that led to a less-than-romantic discovery. The JSO narcotics unit and SWAT team seized a substantial amount of drugs including fentanyl, cocaine, crystal meth, MDMA, oxycodone, and marijuana in addition to cash, vehicles, and weapons, one of which was previously reported stolen. According to the official social media post from the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office, over 300 grams of fentanyl were found, an amount that translates to over 150,000 lethal doses.
The raid resulted in the arrest of four individuals: Elisha George, 42; Carlin Clemons, 20; Carlos Clemons, 45; and Christopher Barnes, 19, all of whom spent their Valentine's Day being booked at the Duval County Jail, the weight of justice preempting the exchange of hearts and flowers. The post by the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office proudly commended the officers for their exemplary work in keeping "dangerous drugs and weapons off our streets," this being a sentiment echoed in the online briefing where the list of seized items was detailed, which included four guns, $16,873 in cash, and a vehicle alongside the drugs.
This bust has an impact beyond Mixon Town, highlighting the larger issue of drug trafficking and its dangers. Fentanyl, a major concern nationwide, is especially dangerous due to its potency and the small amount needed for a lethal dose. Officials praised the operation as a major step in curbing the local drug trade and preventing substance abuse and related violence in the community.
